Logging flight time or pilot experience is one of the most satisfying aspects of piloting. Many pilots get caught up on who, when, where, and how much pilot in command or PIC time they should or should not log. The answer is simple, be honest with yourself and the time you log as real experience. The last you want is a logbook filled with hundreds or even thousands of hours of experience and not be up to the challenges you will face at any level of piloting.
For pilots who about to embark on their introductory flight, a good first logbook is a must. So many pilots never purchased their first logbook when they took an introductory flight and this is a big mistake! Keeping track of your progress as you gain valuable experience is incredibly important. However, what is just as important are the vivid memories of your first flight. I guarantee you will never forget many of the details about your first flight such as the name of your flight instructor, aircraft, airport ,etc. Which brings me to the next point; what type of logbook should you buy when you are just starting your piloting adventures? A standard pilot logbook?
Well the answer is a matter of preference. . . however, purchase a good sturdy logbook that will last you a long long time. Incidentally, would be airline captains do not be fooled into thinking that a computer generated logbook is valid; many airlines will not accept this time as valid. Secondly, most airline pilot flight time requires validation, stamped and signed by your flight operations office, in order for you to secure another pilot position in hundreds of countries.
